Identify the steps in preparing for a patient interview
Make sure you are prepared - finish previous notes, attend to self comfort and read/review any relevant information
Establish a rapport with patient - introduce yourself, ask how they would like to be referred to, ask for name and date of birth, explain the purpose of the interview and gain consent
How do you gain consent?
Explain what you want from them, and what consent entails. Once they are informed, you can ask for consent
Don’t forget to ask for consent to take notes

What is the difference between sympathy and empathy?
Sympathy is feeling for the patient
Empathy is feeling with the patient
Identify relevamt contributors to patient experience of illness
Respect for patient values, integrated care, high quality information, physical comfort, emotional support, continuity of care etc
