Where are the two collector tanks located?
Center Tank
What provides venting for the fuel tanks?
NACA vent scoops under the wings
How is fuel prevented from flowing to the wing tip during wing low maneuvers?
One way flow valves in each wing tank.
During climb you notice the total fuel in the center tank increase by 300 lbs, is this a problem?
No
possible for fuel to flow to the center tank from the vent system during climb and cause the fuel quantity readings of the center tank to increase as high as 300 lbs.
Where is the temperature of the fuel measured?
Left Wing Tank - >-40C
Fuel Line to each engine - >5C
What powers the fuel ejectors?
motive flow form the high pressure pump.
How is fuel transferred from the wing tanks to the collector tanks?
scavenge ejectors.
How are the boost pumps powered?
DC
What is the purpose of the boost pumps?
Transfer fuel form the collector tanks to the engines.
Back up to main ejectors when the ejector fails.
Provide fuel pressure during engine start. (not required for engine start)
When will the electric boost pumps operate with the L and R boost pump switch light selected?
BOTH pumps will operate when the fuel computer detects low fuel feed pressure in either feed manifold.
Which electric boost pump will operate with just DC power?
LEFT DC PUMP.
Explain the APU/XFLOW PUMP
DC powered pump used to supply fuel to the APU from both wing tanks equally and performs crossflow operations.
APU negative gravity relief valve opens when:
if the APU/XFLOW fuel pump fails.
negative gravity condition exists in flight.
Two methods to cross flow fuel?
Powered (auto or man)
Gravity
Operation of the automatic XFLOW.
Fuel imbalance of more that 200lbs.
APU/XFLOW pump is powered and fuel is taken from both wing tanks. the crossflow valve on the low quantity side will open and fill the low side to 50lbs above the other side.
When will the FUEL IMBALANCE caution message appear on the EICAS?
Imbalance of 800lbs.
When will the fuel total turn AMBER?
900 lbs
When will the bulk fuel temperature in the left wing turn amber?
-40C and below
When will the L/R fuel feed temperatures turn amber?
5C or less
