Flashcards in Doppler Deck (21):
1

Flow

fluid in a tube flows in response to a pressure difference at both ends.

2

velocity

the speed of something in a given direction

3

Pulsatile flow

a flow with periodic variations

4

Phasic flow

flow a flow of or relating to a phase or phases

5

Steady flow

flow of a continuous nature

6

Laminar flow

a flow in which neighboring layers do not mix but flow at different velocities

7

Plug flow

viscous fluid with no shearing between adjacent layers; idealized w/out any mixing of particles of fluid.

8

Parabolic flow

flow layers of fluid are straight and parallel to each other; they slide over each other. The highest flow speed is at the center of the vessel.

9

Turbulent flow

random and chaotic flow pattern. Particles move at different speeds in different directions.

10

Reynolds Number

a dimensionless quantity that is used to help predict similar flow patterns in different fluid situations

11

Energy Gradient

a change in energy over time or space

12

Kinetic Energy

energy that a body possesses by virtue of being in motion.

13

Pressure

the continuous physical force exerted on or against an object by something in contact with it.

14

Gravitational Energy

the movement of an object or mass that is caused by the pull of gravity.

15

Energy losses in circulation - inertia

the resistance of energy

16

Effects of a stenosis

causes a random and chaotic flow pattern

17

Bernoulli's Principle

fluid moves against a pressure gradient from a point of low pressure to a point of high pressure

18

Pressure Flow Relationships

the greater the pressure difference, the greater the flow rate

19

Ohm's Law

the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the potential difference across the two points.

20

Hydrostatic Pressure

the pressure exerted or transmitted by the fluid at rest.

21

Breathing & Venous flow

there will be breaks in the flow pattern while the person exhales.
