ECG Limb Lead Placements Flashcards
(11 cards)
How many electrodes are attached to the patient for a 12-lead ECG?
10
6 precordial (chest) electrodes and 4 limb electrodes
What is the location of V1 electrode?
4th intercostal space, right sternal margin
What is the location of V2 electrode?
4th intercostal space, left sternal margin
Where is the V3 electrode placed?
Midway between V2 and V4
What is the location of V4 electrode?
5th intercostal space, mid-clavicular line
Where is the V5 electrode located?
5th intercostal space, anterior axillary line (at the same level as V4)
What is the placement of V6 electrode?
5th intercostal space, mid-axillary line (at the same level as V4)
What are the limb leads in a 12-lead ECG?
- RA: right arm or hand
- LA: left arm or hand
- RL: right leg or foot
- LL: left leg or foot
Which electrodes should be applied first for easier placement?
V1, V2, and V4
What colors are used for limb lead placement?
- RA: red
- LA: yellow (‘lemon’)
- LL or ‘F’: green
- RL or ‘N’: black
What should be done for an accurate ECG?
Double check lead placement and ask the patient to keep extremely still for 30 seconds.
