Create a makeup of a class of students or use the makeup of a real class of students with whom one of the team members works. Make sure that it is a culturally diverse group. Include grade level, number of students, ratio of boys to girls, students with special needs, and cultural or ethnic backgrounds.

Decide which lesson plan will be used to make improvements. Each team member must post a lesson plan of his or her own creation, or one from a previously published source, to the Learning Team. Cite any sources.

Improve the lesson plan to make it more culturally responsive for the intended group of students described. Use the team members’ background knowledge about lesson planning, the information gained in this course thus far from both of the texts, additional readings, and the individual research done during Week Four in the personal journals to help you complete this step.

Include the original lesson plan, with improvements highlighted in a different color for each area of the lesson that the team wants to alter to make the plan more culturally responsive. Notes regarding teacher-student interactions may be included where appropriate.

Write a 350- to 700-word summary of the improvements at the end of the lesson plan. Include the team’s rationale for changes made to the plan.
