What do consensus theories believe are the two main functions of education?
Secondary socialisation - providing skills needed to work
Meritocracy - everyone has the same opportunities to succeed

School acts as a bridge between home and society. At home children get treated as individuals (particularistic standards) at school children get treated the same through a meritocratic system (universalistic standards)
