The Educational Reform Act 1988 - The National Curriculum

  • standardised education for all students regardless of gender
  • Science became a compulsory subject up to GCSE level. This meant girls gained a much higher level of scientific knowledge and skills
  • boys and girls were no longer segregated in subject choices - girls traditionally would study childcare, cooking, needlework etc., whereas boys would study woodwork etc.
