Electromagnetic Radiation Flashcards
(7 cards)
radio radiation
radio radiation has the lowest frequency and mainly used for nuclear power generation
microwave radiation
this is used for cooking and food preparations, communication technologies and medical applications
infrared radiation
this is invisible to the human eye but can be felt as warmth on the skin and travels at the speed of light
visible radiation
the most important characteristic of this is colour and refers to the portion of solar radiation that our eyes can detect
ultraviolet
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a form of electromagnetic radiation emitted by the sun and artificial sources, playing a crucial role in health and environmental processes.
x-ray
An X-ray is a quick and painless procedure commonly used to produce images of the inside of the body.
It’s a very effective way of looking at the bones and can be used to help detect a range of conditions.
gamma rays
Gamma rays or gamma radiation are a form of electromagnetic radiation with extremely high frequency and energy
Gamma rays are light (photons), not particles.
They have the highest frequency and shortest wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum.
Mostly, gamma radiation results from nuclear reactions.
