Either Pilot Will Call “ABORT”

Fire or Smoke in the Fuselage 

PF or PM: “SMOKE DRILL” 

Both Pilots:

  • Put O2 mask ON with 100% O2
  • Don smoke goggles
  • Select MIC switch to MASK

“MASK ON” 

  • Select HOT MIC OFF

PM:

  • RECIRC FAN - OFF
  • Illuminated SMOKE/EXTG switch - Press

 

If smoke source in cockpit:

PF: “OPEN FORWARD OUTFLOW VALVE” 

PM: “FORWARD OUTFLOW VALVE OPEN”

 

PF: “FUSELAGE FIRE OR SMOKE CHECKLIST”

Emergency Descent 

PF: “EMERGENCY DESCENT DRILL”

Both Pilots: 

  • Put O2 mask ON with 100% O2
  • Don smoke goggles
  • Select MIC switch to MASK

“MASK ON” 

  • Select HOT MIC OFF

PF:

  • Passenger signs - ON
  • All external lights - ON
  • ALT 10,000’ or MEA and ALT SEL 
  • IAS mode
  • Power levers - FLT IDLE
  • Condition levers - MAX
  • IAS - VMO (no structural damage)

PM:

  • Advise ATC
  • Set QNH from ATC
  • Transponder - 7700
  • TA/RA to below

PF: PA “ATTENTION THIS IS THE CAPTAIN, EMERGENCY DESCENT FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT”

 

PF: “EMERGENCY DESCENT CHECKLIST”

 

At 10,000 feet or MEA (whichever is higher)

  • Remove Mask (if altitude permits) when safe: 
  • EMER Call to Purser to verify passenger and aircraft condition, and instruction regarding donning of oxygen.

Severe Icing Encounter in Flight

Autopilot - Disengage

Condition Levers - MAX/1020

Power Levers - As required, up to MCP

Airspeed - Min 190kts

Ice Protection - Confirm ON

Exit icing conditions by changing altitude and/or course as required.

 

Caution: Avoid aggressive maneuvering as stall margins will be reduced.

 

When clear of icing conditions, place the aircraft in wings level steady state flight, and ensure there is no abnormal roll control forces and the aileron trim is appropriate for configuration. 

Then, adjust the power levers, condition levers, airspeed and select the autopilot as required.

 

Adjust Power Levers, Condition Levers, and Airspeed as required.

 

If it cannot be determined that the aircraft is no longer affected by severe icing, do not engage autopilot.

Pitch Jam

PF: “PITCH JAM ASSIST” 

  • Disconnect Auto-Pilot
  • Maintain flap and airspeed at time of jam
  • Both pilots try to overpower the controls to dislodge the jam

If unable to control aircraft:

PF: “PITCH DISCONNECT” 

  • Pull Pitch Disconnect handle and rotate 90 degrees

PM: Relax force

  • Both pilots attempt to control the aircraft.
  • Pilot with the free control calls “I HAVE CONTROL”

Once aircraft is under control and at a minimum of 1,000 feet AGL

PF: “PITCH JAM CHECKLIST”

Roll Jam

PF: “ROLL JAM”

  • Disconnect Auto-Pilot

PF: “ROLL DISCONNECT”

  • Pull Roll Disconnect handle and rotate 90 degrees
  • Both pilots attempt to control the aircraft.
  • Pilot with the free control calls “I HAVE CONTROL”

Once aircraft is under control and at a min 1,000’ AGL

Roll Control Malfunction

PM - Press SPLR 1 (2) PUSH OFF Switchlight

If no illumination of SPLR 1 or SPLR 2 PUSH OFF switchlights in wings-level flight:

PF: Apply power and airspeed to maintain wings level

Once aircraft is under control and at min 1000’ AGL:
