endocrine Flashcards
(13 cards)
endocrine glands release what into the bloodstream
Endocrine glands release hormones into the bloodstream.
This lets the hormones travel to cells in other parts of the body. The endocrine hormones help control mood, growth and development, the way our organs work, metabolism , and reproduction.
what glands are found in your neck
the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and pineal gland are in your brain.
the thyroid and parathyroid glands are in your neck.
the thymus is between your lungs.
the adrenals are on top of your kidneys, and the pancreas is behind your stomach.
the lymphatic systemis part of what other system
The lymphatic system is part of the immune system. It keeps body fluid levels in balance and defends the body against infections.
vessels, tissues, organs, and glands work together to drain a watery fluid called lymph from throughout the body.
what does the hypothalamus produce?
produces hormones that control, body temperature, heart rate and hunger
what is the role of the pituitary gland ‘master gland’
monitors and regulates many bodily functions through the hormones that it produces
including growth and reproductive development and function.
what hormone does the pineal gland release
To create and release the hormone melatonin in order to communicate information about the condition of the cycle of light and dark that is received from the environment.
what hormones does the thyroid produce
generates hormones that control the body’s growth, development, and metabolism.
it affects bone maintenance, brain growth, and the regulation of heart, muscle, and digestive functions.
what does the parathyroid control (3)
to produce the hormone parathyroid (PTH).
It controls blood and bone calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium levels.
For strong bones, the minerals phosphorus and calcium are essential.
what is the thymus in charge of what cells
is in charge of the development and maturity of immune cells
particularly the tiny lymphocytes that shield the body from foreign antigens.
what do the hormones do that are produced by the adrenal gland (4)
controlling blood pressure, metabolism, the immune system, stress response, and other vital processes.
what hormone does the pancreatic gland create
insulin, which helps to control blood sugar levels.
what is immunity
immunity is the ability of the body to defend itself against disease-causing organisms.
what are lymphocytes responsible for (3)
antibody production
killing of virus infected and tumor cells
regulation of the immune response.
