whats is an endoscopy, whats does the test do
an endoscope is a procedure where a long thin flexible tube called an endoscope is inserted into an organ in the body, it has a camera and light on the end and the image is displayed on a monitor.
whats the 1st step during an endoscopy
the patient will be asked not to eat or drink before the procedure - patient may be given laxatives if endoscopy is on the bowels or intestine.
whats the 2nd step during an endoscopy
procedure is done while patient is awake - may be given a local anaesthetic or sedative.

endoscope is then either swallowed or inserted and imagine is shown on a monitor.

what is the risk of the procedure of an endoscopy
an endoscopy is usually a safe procedure and the risk of serious complications are low
what are the rare complications of an endoscopy
-infection
-piercing or tearing an organ or structure
-internal bleeding
-allergic reaction to sedation or Analgesia
