First Person Narration
is a point of view where the story is narrated by on character at a time. This character may be speaking about him or herself.
Flashback
is a set time earlier than the main story.
Foreshadowing
is a warning or indication of a future event.
Irony
is the expression of one’s meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite. Typically for humorous or emphatic effect.
Dramatic Irony
this occurs when a character knows less about his or her circumstances than the audience does.
Situational Irony
is a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected.
Verbal Irony
is when a person says or writes one thing and means another, or uses words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of a literal meaning.
Third Person Narration
a story with no particular point of view. the audience knows the most about all the characters.
Third Person Limited Narration
the narrator only knows the thought and feelings of one character.
Third Person Omniscient Narration
a point of view where the narrator knows all the thoughts, actions, and feelings of all characters.

a major idea developed in a narrative text.
