Q

Difference in ABR and OAE

A

Types of loss: conductive, sensorineural, auditory dyssynchrony, central

ABR: automated brainstem response se. brainwave response to scalp electrode. Takes longer. Detects ALL TYPES. Less affected by outer and middle ear obstruction.

OAE: otoacoustic emissions. cochlear response. may miss sensorineural

Both: cut off 35 db, infants after 34 weeks. Both better at detecting mid to high frequency sounds compared to low frequency.
