What is indoor environmental quality? (IEQ)
includes air quality (IAQ) and access to daylight and views Pleasant acoustical conditions, occupant control, overlighting, and thermal comfort
Define building commissioning
Building commissioning is a procedure where a building’s mechanicals are inspected, tested, run, and adjusted. Data collected over time is compared against the original design contract documents.
When does building commissioning typically happen?
Commissioning usually happens during the design phase and the tenant’s initial occupancy of the space. This ensures the system is operating as intended.
What is ASHRAE 90.1
Standard geared to energy efficiency in commercial buildings.
What is Underwriters Laboratories
A standards organization that validates and certifies sustainable, low emitting, and energy-efficient products.
What is LEED
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (green building)
What is GBI
Green Building Initiative
What is FSC
Forest Stewardship Council
What is SFI
Sustainable Forest Initiative
What is C2C (Cradel to cradel)
Sustainable zero waste product development
What is CHPS
Collaborative for High-Performance Schools
What is the Energy Policy Act of 1992
Regulates toilet flushing, clothes washers, and use of hot water through showerhead restrictors
What is the IECC (International Energy Conservation Code)
Applies to commercial buildings, the building’s site, and associated systems and equipment.
What is ASHRAE/IESNA90.1
Energy Standard for Buildings Except for Low-Rise Residential Buildings
What is ASHRAE/IESNA 90.2
Energy-Efficient Design of Low-Rise Residential Buildings
What is the global rating system for buildings and interior spaces that support health and wellness?

Define resilience
Resilience is the ability of an organization, place, or family to weather a catastrophic event and to come back better than before.
EX. demountable partitions, can allow spaces to be reconfigured. This allows space to quickly adapt to business changes or other demands, such as increased social distancing in the workspace.
What is the National Environmental Policy Act
What is the Environmental Protection Agency
What is the Clean Air Act
What is the Clean Water Act
What is the Endangered Species Act
What is the Toxic Substances Control Act
The Toxic Substance Control Act gave the EPA authority to track and regulate over 75,000 industrial chemicals produced or imported into the US.
It gives the EPA the authority to require reporting, record-keeping, restrictions, and testing for chemical substances and mixtures.
What is the LCA
Life Cycle Assessment is the assessment of the environmental impact of a given product throughout its life span, from the earliest stages of raw material extraction to what happens to it at the end of its life
To meet most sustainable rating systems requirements, it must be “third-party” verified, adding to both the time and overall cost.
