Q

Solving a system of equations?

A
  1. Substitution … rearrange one to be plugged in to the other equation.

Isolate the variable you DO NOT want, as it will be removed

  1. Elimination…Add or subtract the equations to remove a variable.

Typically easier to add. You can multiply or divide an equation to make it easier to eliminate

Q

Combo questions

What is X + y is really asking..

A

Refers to combining variables like x+y

Really asking WHAT is X = Y

Discern precise combo they want

Then you manipulate until you get a match to what is asked

Q

What is a potential time sink instinct when dealing with “combo Q’s”

A

Wanting to solve for a single variable first instead of isolating the combo to one side

Safer to find the “R &R” relation and ratio
