Simple bandage

A
  • Protective layer against skin
    ○ Holds dressing in place
    ○ Protects skin
    ○ Smooth substance against skin
    § Rouching would lead to bandage sores
    § Exacerbates problems
    • Single layer of padding
      ○ Cotton wool or gamgee (gauze - more durable)
    • Conforming bandage
      ○ Holds everything in place
    • Outer finishing layer
      ○ Vet wrap

Used over joints of carpus and tarsus
Avoid pressure points at the back of joints
* Reduce risk of pressure sores

  • Increases stability of limb
    • Used for:
      ○ Fractures
      ○ Lacerated tendons
    • THREE padding and conforming layers
      ○ Conforming bandage creates pressure
      Used in conjunction with splints
