sugar act of 1764
put a tax on imported goods like sugar and molasses. led to an economic depression
stamp act 1765:
taxed printed materials like paper and documents

required americans to house and feed soldiers

taxes on glass paper, tea, and laws cracking down on colonial smuggling. the smuggling was very important because that’s how most colonists got their goods
tea act
taxes on tea, and it gave special privileges to british east india company. this led to the boston tea party

boston port act
closed the port of boston. it devastated the local economy.
massechussets government act
suspended colonial charter. this provided a greater amount of royalty control by giving lots of power to the royally appointed governer
virginia plan
by james madison. bicameral (2 house legislation). representation based on population. there will be a president, federal judiciary, and a council revision w veto power over state and national legislature. large states favored this plan
new jersey plan
by william paterson. unicameral legislature with representation being equal, ignoring population size of the states. smaller states supported this plan
hamilton
modeled after british gov. bicameral legislature where senetors would be elected through lower chamber and serve for life. prez serves for life and dramatically reduced the power of the states. this plan was probably just to make the virginia plan look good.
Connecticut compromise
bicameral legislature. representation in lower chamber based on population, and in the upper chamber is equal among states. there will be a prez, electoral college, congress, but direct/internal taxation must be appointed by state population
