Obsession criteria? (4)

A. Recurrent/persistent intrusive and inappropriate thoughts, impulses, images that cause distress

B. Thoughts, impulses, images that are not just excessive worries about real problems

C. Attempts to suppress with other thoughts/actions

D. Knows obsessions are from own mind, not imposed by others

Compulsions criteria? (2)

A. Repetitive behaviors/mental acts performed in response to obsession or according to rigid rules

B. Aimed at preventing/reducing distress or dreaded event - excessive or unrealistic

Acute Distress Disorder epidemiology?

Most C causes:

Witness

80% become PTSD!

Acute Distress Disorder risk factors? (5)

Hx of pre-trauma psych disorder
Hx of prior trauma
Female
Neuroticism
Avoidant coping

Acute Distress Disorder criteria? (6)

A. Traumatic exposure/witness of actual/threatened death or serious injury WITH response of sig fear, helplessness, horror

B. During or post event, 3+ sxs

C. Trauma re-experienced w/ images, thoughts, dreams, illusions, exposure to reminders

D. Avoidance of stim/reminders

E. Marked anxiety sxs/increased arousal

F. Lasting 2 days to 4 wks w/i 4 wks of trauma

2) ↓ awareness of surrounding

5) Dissociative amnesia (can't recall trauma)

C. Avoidance/numbing
D. Increased arousal
E. Lasting 1+ mo
F. Significant distress/impairment

PTSD classification:

Acute?

Chronic?

Delayed?

Acute = sxs lasting < 3 mo

Chronic = sxs lasting >= 3mo

Delayed = sxs onset > 6 mo post event
