Both muscles are supplied by branches of the:

Superficial fibular nerve

- Most suprficial
- Tendon passes behind the lateral malleolus, curves around the lateral border of the foot & passes obliquely across the plantar surface of the foot to its insertion (medial cuneiform)

Fibularis longus

- Shorter muscle
- Tendon of insertion desends w/ the tendon of the fibularis longus behind the lateral malleolus

Fibularis brevis

Origin of fibularis longus:

Shaft & head of the fibula

Insertion of the fibularis longus;

Medial cuneiform; 1st metatarsal

Actions of the fibularis longus:

1: Eversion of the foot
2. Plantar flexion of the foot
3. Supports the lateral longitudinal & transverse arches of the foot

Origin of fibularis brevis:

Shaft of the fibula

Insertion of fibularis brevis:

5th metatarsal
