Excess RCS Leakage Flashcards

Q

What actions are taken if PZR level not maintained 200 - 240” (RCS pressure 2055 - 2255#)?

A

1) Open BWST Outlet
2) Ensure CV-1235 open
3) Reduce or isolate L/D

If HPI required to maintain inventory and no SG leakage then trip rx

Q

What steps are performed for RCS into ICW leakage via Letdown cooler?

A

1) If LD Cooler, then isolate associated LD cooler. If needed to maintain < 290” and ICW available to RCP seal coolers, Place CV-1206 in override and throttle SI flow using CV-1207 to maintain greater than 2.5 gpm per seal (2.5 gpm is minimum), close CV-1206 and verify seal cooling adequately cooling RCP seals.

Q

What actions are taken for RCS leakage via RCP seal cooler?

A

1) If SI not available and RCP operating then trip RX, Perform RT-5, trip running RCPs, perform RCP motor emergencies.
2) Place seal cooling pumps in PTL and ensure LD isolated
3) Close Nuc ICW Inlets to RB (RCS leakage will relieve to RB sump via ICW reliefs).
4) If required raise SI flow (If RCS leakage is greater than SI flowrate then it is expected that RCP seals will heat up rapidly due to exceeding cooler capacity).

Q

What actions are taken if RCP seal temps rise indicating RCS leakage greater than SI flow?

A

1) If tripping affected RCP will result in Rx trip then trip reactor, trip RCP and perform RX trip. If won’t trip Rx, then trip RCP and ensure proper ICS response and refer to TS 3.4.4 for RCS loops.
2) Monitor for reverse rotation using RCS loop flow, RCP rev rotation points, RCP high vibes, motor bearing temps and loss of zero speed indication on idle RCP.
3) If Rev rotation indicated then trip RX and trip all running RCPs and isolate seal bleedoff for any tripped RCP to limit seal heatup.

Q

What transitions are made for RCS leaks if reactor is not critical?

A

Perform RCS cooldown by transitioning to

1) Small Break LOCA C/D if RCS cooling down due to HPI/break flow
2) Forced Flow C/D if RCPs running
3) Natural Circ Cooldown if RCPs off.
