What are the 4 basic fingerprint pattern?
- Loop (65%) - radial/ulnar, depending on side of hand the tail points towards
- Whorl (25%) - plain whorl, double loop whorl & central pocket loop whorl
- Arch (7%) - plain/tented
- Mixed (5%)
What are the points for comparison of fingerprints?
- Presence of center (core) & triangle (delta)
- Presence of pores (poroscopy)
- Minutae of ridges - ridge ending, bifurcation, spur formation, dots, lakes, broken/short ridges
- 16-20 points = proof of identity

What is latent print?
Any chance/accidental impression on surface regardless of whether it is visible/invisible at time of deposition
What is plastic print?
Finger/palm impression deposited in material that retains shape of ridge details (e.g wax, soap, clay)
Poroscopy
Study of pores of sweat glands in papillary ridges of epidermis
