ICAO Fire and Rescue Category

A

Derived from length and max width of fuselage.

For B777 - 9 (With pax). This is equivalent to FAA ARFF of ‘E’.

For ETOPS en-route alternates - 4

Temporary Downgrade (a period not exceeding 72 hrs)

For pre-flight planning :

Departure and Destination - 1 Cat below (8) or 2 Cats below if temporary (7).

Take off, Destination and En-Route alternates - 2 Cats below (7) or 3 Cats below if temporary (6)

ETOPS alternate - Cat 4 at 30 mins notice.

None of these can ever be lower than 4.

Note: The relevant aircraft RFF is determined whether or not passengers are carried. For B777 with no passengers the ICAO RFF cat is 7.

Fuel Spills

A

Small spills - cover with absorbent material and remove.

Spills larger than 2 metres - inform TRM who will alert fire services. Consider rapid disembarkation.

If personnel are evacuated the safe area is 15 metres upwind, upslope of the spill.

No engines to be started within 6 metres of spill.
