Q

When doing an evaluation, what is the difference between Leniency or severity?

A

Leniency reduces conflict, because a positive evaluation is likely to make the evaluation a more pleasant experience and avoids confrontation. Rating someone higher than actual work performance
Severity is the opposite direction and rates “needs improvement or unsatisfactory.” Rating someone lower than actual work performance

Q

What makes Personal bias on evaluation form a problem for a fire officer?

A

Personal bias is an Evaluation Error that occurs when the evaluator perspective skews the evaluation such that the classified job knowledge, skill, and abilities are not appropriately evaluated. Fire officers must not allow an evaluation to be slanted by factors such as race, religion, gender, disability, or ages. This is the area most likely to be referenced when an employee files a hostile workplace or discrimination charges.
