What is uroperitoneum?

Presence of urine in abdomen

What is the cause of uroperitoneum?

Ruptured bladder or urachus

Is a ruptured bladder more common in coats or fillies?

Colts

Within the first few days of life

Dorsal aspect

How do you diagnose uroperitoneum?

Ultrasound, abdominal tap

How will abdominal fluid be altered with uroperitoneum?

Elevated CREA (2:1 fluid:serum)

What cliniopathologic changes will be seen with uroperitoneums?

Azotemia, hyperkalemia, decr. Na and Cl

How do you treat uroperitoneum?

E-lyte correction, surgical correction

What is fluid of choice for uroperitoneum treatment?

NaCL, dextrose/insulin
