  1. Carbohydrates- bread, rice pasta potato wheat (starch)
    2proteins - eggs, fish, cheese milk meat
    3 fats - butter oil margarine natural fats coconut
    4 fibres - fruit veg cereal bread brown rice beans
    5 vitamins - fruit veg egg yolk, cheese, fish, milk
    6 minerals -fruit, veg, milk, cheese, nuts , whole grain and whole wheat bread
    7 water - water and food ( which contains water)

What is a balanced diet?

Why do we need a balanced diet?

A

It contains food from all the main food groups
Adequate amounts of all necessary nutrients for healthy growth and activity and continue daily functions in most efficient way
It keeps cells healthy and strong
Nutrients enter body through digestive system
Too much of one food group may cause fat into blood and organs causing disease

What are the food tests?

A

Iodine for starch - black or blue if present, brown if not
Benedict solution for glucose (sugar) - goes red with lots, yellow with a little and blue with none
Sudan III for fat - red if present, orange if not
Biuret solution A for protein - purple if present and blue if not
