15
Q

What causes a spring scale to move?

16
Q

What would you call a change in an object’s position?

17
Q

Name the TWO states of energy.

A

Kinetic and potential

18
Q

What term describes how fast an object is moving?

19
Q

In what FOUR ways can force influence motion?

A

It can cause an object to:

  1. Move
  2. Stop
  3. Change speed
  4. Change direction
20
Q

How many of the five examples of “good” friction can you name?

A
  1. Waxed surface when bowling
  2. Lead on paper
  3. Friction of your finger on a touch screen
  4. Brakes on bikes (especially on Quantico Street!)
  5. Friction in sports to help change position, stop, and pivot
21
Q

How many of the five examples of “bad” friction can you name?

A
  1. A heavy object that you need to roll
  2. Scrapes, burns, or other injuries
  3. Sports injuries
  4. Earthquakes
  5. Pool foot
22
Q

Name the TWO things that influence friction.

A
  1. What the surfaces are made of

2. How are the two surfaces are

23
Q

How can you describe an object’s motion?

A

By tracing and measuring its position over time relative to a frame of reference.

24
Why is Sir Isaac Newton important to the field of physics?
He changed to worldview from Aristotle's four elements to the Three Laws of Motion. These laws were the first to describe the movement of objects in terms of forces.
25
Name the First Law of Motion.
A stationary object will not move if all forces acting on it are balanced. (TECHNICALLY: Objects in motion tend to stay in motion. Objects at rest tend to stay at rest.)
26
Name the Second Law of Motion.
Force = Mass x Acceleration
27
Name the Third Law of Motion.
Every action has a reaction in the opposite direction. | TECHNICALLY: Every action yields an EQUAL and OPPOSITE reaction.
