7

Dupuytren contracture- Dx

Clinical

8

Dupuytren contracture- Tx

Injection or surgical intervention

9

De Quervain tenosynovitis- Eti

Entrapment of tendons leading to thumb. Peritendonitis without inflammation. Common in mothers with infants

10

De Quervain tenosynovitis- Sx

Tenderness over first extensor compartment. Finklestein Test positive

11

De Quervain tenosynovitis- Tx

Spinting, steroids, surgical release

12

Colles Fracture- Eti

Distal radius fracture caused by FOOSH- dorsiflexion

13

Colles Fracture- Sx

Dinner fork deformity, pain swelling and tenderness on distal forearm

14

Colles Fracture- Tx

Reduction and casting

15

Smith Fracture- Eti

Dorsally angulated fracture of distal radius, displaced volarly

16

Smith Fracture- Sx

Garden spade deformity. Volar angulation of distal radius

17

Smith Fracture- Tx

Reduction and casting

18

Navicular fracture- Eti

Most common carpal bone break, FOOSH, At risk of developing avascular necrosis

19

Navicular fracture- sx

Pain in anatomical snuffbox- radiating to radial aspect of wrist

20

Navicular fracture- Tx

Splint to surgery depending on pt and severity

21

Boxer fracture- Eti

Direct blow of hand striking a solid object- common in young males punching things

22

Boxer fracture- Sx

5th metacarpal neck fracture + postive PMH

23

Boxer fracture- Tx

Splint. Reduction if significant angulation

24

Bennett Fracture- Eti

Dislocation of thumb basal joint with displacement of metacarpal articular surface

25

Bennett Fracture- Sx

Thumb displaced proximally, radially and into adduction

26

Bennett Fracture- Tx

Reduction & fixation with pins

27

Ganglion cyst- Eti

Most common benign tumor of hand or wrist- not nerve related. Joint leakage due to weakness in joint capsule.

28

Ganglion cyst- Sx

Common at dorsal wrist & palmar aspect of radial wrist. Painless, mobile, transinllumiation growth. Gel like consistency

29

Ganglion cyst- Tx

Aspiration. Recurrance is common.

30

Paronychia- Eti

Most common infection of the hand. Infection to seal of nail fold. S. aureus most common

31

Paronychia- Sx

Local pain, tenderness, erythema and pus where nail plate meets fold

32

Felon- Eti

Closed space infection of compartment- commonly thumb or index. Hx of penetration, splint or paronychia

33

Felon- Sx

Pain, abscess, erythema and swelling

34

Tuft Fracture- Eti

Fracture of distal phalanx, commonly due to crushing injury. May affect nailbed

35

Tuft fracture- Sx

Hx & injury at distal phalanx
