  • Aim: vaccinate all unimmunized and partially immunized children and pregnant women by 2020 under the Universal Immunization Program
  • 201 high focus districts account for nearly 50% of the target group of children

Regional Rural Bank

A
  • local level banking organizations operating in different states
  • created to service rural areas with basic banking and financial services
  • established under the RRB Act of 1976
  • set up under the recommendation of the Narasimham Working Group
  • RRBs are owned by the central govt (50%), state govt (15%) and sponsor banks (PNB, SBI, Syndicate, United Bank of India, United Commercial Bank) (35%)
  • RBI used to establish ceilings on the rate of interest chargeable by the RRBs

Banking Regulation Act (1949)

  • applicable to banking companies and 1965 onwards to cooperative banks as well
  • cooperative banks do not come entirely under the purview of the RBI, cooperative banks which operate only in one state are formed and run by the state government
  • cooperative land mortgage banks are also excluded
  • act gives RBI the power to license banks, regulate shareholding and voting rights of shareholders, supervise the appointment of boards and management, regulate the operations of banks, lay down instructions for audits, control moratorium, mergers and liquidation, issue directives in the interests of public good and on banking policy, impose penalties

Minimum Alternate Tax

  • MAT is an indirect tax
  • companies with high book profits use exemptions, deductions and other incentives to reduce their taxable income to negligible levels; Under MAT, all companies having book profits under the Companies Act must pay at a rate of 18.5%
  • companies engaged in infrastructure and power sectors, income arising from free trade zones, charitable activities, and investment by venture capital companies are excluded
  • foreign companies with income sources are liable under MAT
  • Justice AP Shah Committee submitted a report to FinM Arun Jaitley on MAT: based on the recommendations, Modi Govt has decided to waive MAT on capital gains made by Foreign Institutional Investors prior to April 1, 2015
