Standard operating procedures (SOPs) shall

Be followed by all units and divisions performing
like tasks and functions in order to ensure
uniformity of police services.

All command staff members are authorized and shall:

Written directives for a command, office, division, or unit that carries the same authority as the General Orders.
The term SOP also refers to any department operating procedures (e.g., Jail Operating Procedures [JOPs]).

relating to the performance of their duties (e.g., values, mission statement, General Orders, Special Orders, Circulars, and SOPs).

c. Ensure Inspections Division receives:
1. One hard copy of each new or revised
SOP. (Each copy must be
submitted on three-hole punched,
standard white single-sided paper.)
2. One electronic copy of the current,
complete SOP manual on compact
disk or other portable electronic data
storage device. The electronic format
must be able to be read by the most
current portable document format
(pdf) reader software in use by the
City. The files sent to Inspections Division
shall not be compressed,
password protected, or locked to prevent
extraction.

INSPECTIONS DIVISION RESPONSIBILITIES

1.) Inspections Division does not approve or
disapprove the content of SOPs for any
command, office, division, or unit.

2.) Inspections Division shall review all new and
revised SOP for general compliance with
department policy and the most current SOP
guidelines manual. If there are any obvious
inaccuracies, Inspections Division shall contact
the division responsible to have the inaccuracies
addressed.

If Inspections Division returns an SOP for revision, the submitted SOP remains in effect?

Until the changes are approved by the responsible command staff members and the SOP is reissued
