How were the Alps formed?

At a destructive plate boundary between the African plate pushing North against the Eurasian plate

What are the four land use benefits of the Alps?

-Toursim (skiing, beautiful scenery, walking)
-Farming (transhumance- cattle graze high in summer, low in winter)
-HEP (steep slope, high precipitation and summer melting glaciers produce river ideal for HEP, and the narrow valley are easy to dam)
-Forestry (main building material and for winter fuels)

What are the problem with tourism of the Alps?

-winters are warming up
-more people skiing on worn slopes, damaging vegetation and increasing the risk of soil erosion.
-farmers are buying feed to keep animals on valley floor all year round.
-cables cars built for tourism are being used to transport animal products down the mountain.
