kodomo no toki, soto de asobu no ga suki deshita.
When to use toki?
Toki (時):
* Specific time: “Toki” can refer to a precise moment, like “when the clock strikes 3” (3時の時).
- Duration of time: It can also indicate a period, like “during the summer” (夏の時).
“When” or “at the time”: It’s used to indicate the time an action or event occurs.
Example: “When I was a child” is often expressed as kodomo no toki (子どもの時).
When to use koro?
Koro (頃):
*Approximate time: “Koro” suggests a more general or vague period, often around a specific point or age.
- Around, about, or during: It implies a time period close to or around something.
*Example: “When I was a child” could also be expressed as kodomo no koro (子どもの頃). In this case, koro is used to emphasize the period of childhood in a more general sense.
*Example: “Around 10 years old” can be written as 10 sai no koro (10歳の頃).
When I was around 6 years old, I started reading books.
私は6歳くらいの頃から本を読み始めました。
Watashi wa 6-sai kurai no koro kara hon o yomi hajimemashita.
