graphics mock Flashcards
reduce -
using materials economically so less is wasted, avoid unnecessary packaging
how does lithography work
uses an oil based ink and water and the fact that they don’t mix. UV light is used to transfer the image onto an aluminium printing plate. the image area gets coated with a chemical that attracts the oily inc but repels water
how does flexography work?
uses a printing plate made of flexible rubber/plastic, image sticks out a bit from the plate.
how does gravure work?
uses an etched brass printing plate - meaning the image is lower than the surface of the plate and the ink fills up the etched bits
how does screen printing work?
a stencil is put under a fine mesh screen and ink is spread over the top. the ink goes through the stencil and prints onto the material below.
advantages of lithography
fast way of printing, gives a high quality product
advantages of flexography
quicker than lithography, printing plates last for longer, used for large print runs, can print onto different surfaces
advantages of gravure
really fast and ideal for large print runs and gives really good quality - but expensive
advantages of screen printing
low cost process, ideal for short print runs and can print onto many surfaces
what is a corporate identity?
the image it wants people to have of the company
what are smart materials?
they change their properties in response to heat, light, pressure.
what are thermochromic paints used for?
to create images that change

warning patches to tell you if something is too hot
