CN V - branches and supply
-V1 - Opthalmic - sensory to eyeball, orbit, forehead, frontal/ethmoid sinus, anterior scalp, bridge of nose, up eyelid.
Post ganglionic parasymp fibres to lacrimal gland.
Arises from frontal, lacrimal and nasociliary N. SUPERIOR ORBITAL FISSURE
-V2 - Maxillary - sensory info to maxilla and overlying skin, nasal cavity, sinises, palate, nasopharynx. FORAMEN ROTUNDUM
Postganglionic parasymp supply to salivary glands
Branches - Zy / Infraorb / Superior alv
V3 - Mandibular -
motor - medial pterygoid, tensor veli palatini,
Branches - buccal/auriculotemp/lingual/IA
FORAMEN OVALE
Auriculotemporal branche of V3
sensory to external ear and scalp
Postganglionic parasymp to parotid gland
Facial N branches
Temporal - Zygomatic - Buccal - Mandibular - Cervical -
What is the chorda tympani
PArasymp efferent for submand/sublingual glands
Afferent for TASTE SENSATION
Muscles of mastication O/I/Act
- Masseter O - Zygomatic arch, I - Sngle of mandible
Act - elevate - Temporalis O - Inferior temporal line(temporal fossa), I - Coronoid process
Act - elevate and retraction
- Med pterygoid O - deep = medial suface of lateral p plate superficial = maxillary tuberosity I - Medial surface of the ramus Act - Elevate
- Lateral pterygoid
O - Superior head -= infratemporal surface of greater wing of sphenoid. Inferior = anterior surface of neck of mandible
I - lateral surface of lateral pterygoid plate
Act - DEPRESSION of mandible and protrude
