Haemostasis Disorder Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is abnormal bleeding
- Lack of specific factor perhaps due to congenital and acquired or increased consumption/ clearance
- Derivative function of a specific factor > genetic defect or acquired defect -drugs, synthetic defect, inhibition
Describe the effect of thrombocytopenia
Bone marrow failure eg leukaemia, B12 deficiency, accumulated clearance eg immune and DIC (not enough platlets)
Thrombocytopenia: antibodies that develop against the platlets and binding of these antibodies means that they are cleared rapidly by the macrophages.
Mechanisms: failure of platlet production, shortened half life, increased pooling (hyper spleenism)
Describe glycoproteins receptor deficiency
Absence of 2b - glanzanns
Absence of 1b - Bernard soulier
Describe VWF disease
Normally hereditary and cause look at slide
What is the test for disorders of primary haemostasis
Measure platlet count, platlet morphology, bleeding time and assay VWF
Discuss haemophilia and disorders of coagulation
Look at slide
