Haemostasis Disorder Flashcards

(7 cards)

1
Q

What is abnormal bleeding

A
  1. Lack of specific factor perhaps due to congenital and acquired or increased consumption/ clearance
  2. Derivative function of a specific factor > genetic defect or acquired defect -drugs, synthetic defect, inhibition

Q

Describe the effect of thrombocytopenia

A

Bone marrow failure eg leukaemia, B12 deficiency, accumulated clearance eg immune and DIC (not enough platlets)

Thrombocytopenia: antibodies that develop against the platlets and binding of these antibodies means that they are cleared rapidly by the macrophages.

Mechanisms: failure of platlet production, shortened half life, increased pooling (hyper spleenism)
