Q

What are the steps of the low speed running brake test?

A
  1. Follow location departure requirements,
  2. When authority to depart is received, power the train to 5 km/h
  3. Place the MC to the full service position of the breaking zone
  4. Bring the train to a stand
  5. Once the train has stopped, Assist the performance of the braking
  6. Observe, full service, brake cyl. pressure

Q

When must a service brake test be carried out?

A

At the first suitable opportunity prior to the first scheduled stopping location in the following situations:

  • After taking control of a train
  • When changing ends
  • When transitioning between dry to wet rail
  • Following a defect or alteration to train braking equipment

Q

How is a running brake test performed?

A

•. Depart the location according to signal aspects and correct platform departure procedure

•. Power the train to a speed relative to track conditions /aspects etc.

•. Place the MC into the min. braking position

•. Observe, equivalent, braking effort, using the effort achieved tile on the TMS and the brake cyl. gauges

•. Move the MC further into the braking zone

•. Re-asses for an increase in braking effort, equivalent to the position of the MC

•. Return the MC to coast
