Where is healing by secondary intention seen?

Excision all wounds with tissue loss/separated edges and in infected wounds.


What occurs first in secondary intention?

Open wound is filled by abundant granulation tissue that grows in from wound margins.


Describe the clot in secondary intention.

Larger and more necrotic debris than in primary intention, with a more intense inflammatory process.


How is the wound closed?

Wound contraction takes place as scab contracts when drying and shrinking and after a week myofibroblasts appear and also contract.


What does the final shape of the scar depend on?

Initial shape of the wound.


How does the final healed tissue appear?

A substantial scar with a thinner epidermis.
