heterozygous advantage Flashcards

1
Q

what is the heterozygous advantage?

A

Situation where a heterozygous genotype has a higher chance of survival than either homozygous genotype

  • type of natural selection

Q

what happens when you are heterozygous? (Dd)

A
  • resistant to whatever disease (malaria or TB)
  • higher chance of survival
  • pass on both alleles = increase in allele frequency = survival right increases
