histology - unit 2 Flashcards
(46 cards)
4 types of histology
epithelial, connective, muscular, nervous.
study of tissues
histology
tissue that covers organs and lines body cavities. forms the body’s glands. has nerves wired to it.
epithelial tissue
avascular refers to a lack of
blood vessels
this tissue type has the ability to regenerate and is nearly avascular
epithelial
epithelial cell tissue has an ___ covering organs. “top side”
apical side
epithelial cell has a ___ fused to the organs.
basil side
the three cell layer terminologies
simple, stratified, and pseudostratified.
type of epithelial cell layer. single cell layer
simple epithelium
type of epithelial cell layer. multiple layers of cells.
stratified epithelium
type of epithelial cell layer. single layer that appears to be multi-layered.
pseudostratified epithelium
the three cell shape terminologies
squamous, cuboidal, columnar
type of epithelial cell shape. flat/tile-shaped.
squamous cell
type of epithelial cell shape. cube-shaped.
cuboidal cell
type of epithelial cell shape. column-shaped
culomnar cell
type of epithelial cell shape. column-shaped
columnar cell
multiple layers of epithelial cells that change shape.
transitional epithelium
most abundant tissue type. is mostly vascular, and innervated, and most parts of regenerate
connective tissue
the two basic parts of connective tissue
CT Matrix and Ground Substance
part of connective tissue. found between cells and fibers. fluid, semifluid, gelatinous, or calcified. It supports cells by binding them together.
ground substance
part of connective tissue. extracellular matrix. material that surrounds CT cells. composed of Ground Substance and CT Fibers.
CT Matrix
extracellular proteins produced and released by CT cells. found in CT matrix.
CT fibers
3 types of CT fibers
collagen, elastic, and reticular
type of CT fiber. molecules are wrapped in long strands. most abundant protein. (think rope)
collagen fibers
