Homostasis Flashcards
(5 cards)
Vasodilation
Blood vessels close to the skin widen
This allows more blood to flow to the near the surface so it can radiate more heat into the surroundings
Vasoconstriction
Blood vessels near the surface constrict so that less heat can be transferred from the blood to the surroundings
What does your skin do when too hot
Sweat is produced when it evaporates it transfers heat from you to the environment cooling you down
Vasodilation
Hairs lie flat letting heat escape
What even is homeostasis
The maintenance of a constant internal environment
What does your skin do when you’re too cold
Very little sweat produced
Vasoconstriction
You shiver the movement generates heat in the muscles
Hairs stand on end to trap an insulating layer of air to keep you warm
