What are the steps you must take when turning and re-positioning a client? (this is specifically for the beginning process of moving a consumer)

  1. Ask the consumer to assist with bending their knees or crossing their leg farthest from you over the other leg, as shown in the corresponding illustration.
  2. Place one hand on the client’s shoulder and one hand on the hip, as shown in the corresponding illustration.
  3. Gently roll the client towards you “on the count of three.” TIP Always remove the pillow from under a client’s head before rolling them to the side (gently lift up head and slide out pillow)
  4. Ask the consumer how they feel and if they feel safe.

What are the steps for re-positioning the client?

A
  1. Support the client with one hand on the shoulder and use your free hand to put a pillow or supportive device behind their back. TEST TIP The pillow must be rolled and tucked behind the back.
  2. Allow the consumer to roll back onto the pillow with no pressure on the hip.
  3. Use one hand to assist the client in lifting their head and place a pillow under the consumer’s head.
  4. Ensure the client is not lying on their arm and that it rests comfortably, with a small pillow under the arm (between the shoulder and the bed) they need their hands flat and knees bent
  5. Place a pillow on the client’s chest and have them hug it.
  6. Bend the client’s top knee forward and place a pillow or supportive device between the client’s legs, making sure the pressure points are not against each other (top knee should be in a flexed position) as shown in the corresponding illustration (carefully lift, don’t grab

  1. Does the client feel any pressure on any certain part of their body? *If yes, then continue to adjust their position *If no, then don’t adjust their body
  2. Make sure the client is not too close to the edge of the bed
