What is a Depressant?
Slows down the messages your brain sends to the body
What is a stimulant?
speeds up the messages between the brain and body

distorts your sensory perceptions and can make you see and hear things that do not exist.

Long Term affects from depressants
Chronic fatigue, depression, breathing problems, sleep disorders, weight gain
Short term affects from stimulants
anxiety, sleeplessness, dilated pupils, rise in blood sugar, nausea, decreased blood flow and violent behavior

increased blood pressure, irregular heart rate, asthma, chronic insomnia, seizure, heart failure

What is a Prescription drug
a licensed medicine, regulated by specific laws, which requires approval from a doctor before it can be obtained.
Define Over-the-counter drugs
can be obtained without a prescription from a doctor.
Why is prescription drug abuse so dangerous
viewed as ‘safe’ as they have a doctor’s approval, easier to obtain, still be addicted, dependent and overdose.

permanent physical disability
grief or loss
hardships in life
