Ice Protection Flashcards
(30 cards)
What uses bleed air for ice protection?
Outboard slats, engine cowls
What components are electrically heated?
ADSP, Windshields, TAT probles, water lines, static port.
Can the APU be used as a bleed source for anti Ice?
No
What is heated at engine start?
ADSP, TAT probes, Static port waterlines and windshields
If an engine fails, how is the respective side wing heated?
The Crossbleed valve automatically opens to heat the wing
If an engine fails, does the respective side receive anti ice protection?
No
How long does the anti ice system stay on if Ice is NOT detected?
2 or 5 mins depending on the epic load
Can the pilot override Anti ice system?
Yes
How can the pilot Override the Anti ice system?
turning the Ice protection Knob to ON
How many Ice detectors does the system Have?
2
how could a pilot tell if the aircraft was picking up ice?
Look at the Windshield wipers, they are not heated
In an electrical emergency, will the Ice protection still function?
YES, the bleed valves are fail safe open so they would stay on.
If ice protection is selected OFF in MCDU TO/DATA will the Ice protection still function?
Yes but not until above 1700ft or 2 mins after liftoff
Why is it important to turn the TO/DATA set menu to ALL when in Icing?
so that the Engine cowlings have ice protection immediately (preventing any ice from forming that could get sucked into engine)
when TO/DATA set is set to ALL when will engines receive Anti Ice protection?
as soon as engines are started.
When will the wings (slats) be heated if TO/DATA is set to ALL?
40kts groundspeed or 1700 AFE
When would TO/DATA set menu be set to ALL?
10 C or less when visible moisture or ground contaminated or icing conditions expected to exist below 1700 AFE
When would pilot select ENG in TO/DATA set?
Never
When would wings be heated on the ground?
Wheelspeed greater than 40kts
When would pilot select OFF in TO/DATA set?
no icing conditions exist and above 10C
After clearing the runway upon landing, when would Anti Ice be positioned to ON?
As soon as possible after clearing runway. If in icing conditions
What happens to the windshield wiper if operated on a dry glass?
It will stop.
how would you move a parked windshield wiper?
while on ground use water on windshield
can try turning wiper off then back on
Maximum speed to use the windshield wiper?
250 kts
