Q

Definition of Inflammare: to excite

6 things

A
  • a reaction of living tissue to injury
  • is a dynamic process starts with injury and culminates with healing or repair
  • is primarily a defense mechanism but can be potentially harmful
  • is a stereotyped (the same..) process regardless of nature of injury
  • the intensity, duration and outcome is modified by a variety of host factors and factors related to the etiological (study of causation, or origination) agent
  • in order for inflammation to occur, the injury must be non lethal
2
Q

Define Infection

A

Inflammation due to biological agents. Usually cause a more intense and prolonged inflammatory reaction

3
Q

Define Injury

A

Excessive stimulation or the effect of an excessive stimulus upon cells and tissues

4
Q

Define Injurious Agent

A
  • Causing injury, may be living or non living
5
Q

Define Exudation

- Exudate

A

Outpouring of fluids, proteins, and cells from vessels into interstitium or body cavities. This makes the left over blood very dense this is called Exudate- is extravascular fluid rich in proteins and cells with specific gravity of
> 1.020.
This happens because of increased permeability of small blood vessels in the area of injury
