Interactions in the Physical Environment Flashcards
(15 cards)
occurs when 2 plates move towards each other and collide
~ when a continental plate meets a oceanic plate, thinner , denser thicker oceanic plate sinks beneath a more thicker and denser continental plate
Convergent plate movement
occurs when a divergent boundary or divergent plate boundary is a linear feature that exists between two tectonic plates that are moving away from each other.
~ the mid atlantic ridge and east pacific rise.
Divergent plate movement
transform boundary, is a fault along a plate boundary where the motion is predominantly horizontal.
Another example of a transform boundary on land is the Alpine Fault of New Zealand.
Transform plate movement
occurs when an oceanic plate runs or collides with a continental plate and slides beneath it .
subduction
a geologic process in which tectonic plates—large slabs of Earth’s lithosphere—split apart from each other
Sea floor spread
~ seafloor mountain spreading new system formed by tectonic plates.
east pacific rise
antarctic ridge
Mid-oceanic ridge
erupted on the surface (rocks formed after a volcano or oozing fizzuries.)
pumice
basalt
Extrusive igneous rock
solidify within earth ( usually
granite
pegmatite
Intrusive igneous rock
state of the atmosphere , wind , heat etc.
temp, wind, cloud cover
weather
Another word for the earth’s weather
“average weather”
eg. humidity
Climate
any sort of group of mostly evergreen trees and shrubs (as pines) that typically produce cones and have leaves resembling needles or scales in shape.
pine, spruce, larch
coniferous trees
giant flowering plants
maple, oaks, beeches
deciduous trees
believe that humans can have access to the land, but they should only utilize it for its natural beauty and inspiration.
eg “The Egyptian pyramid should never be destroyed.”
Preservationist perspective
preserving species and whole biological communities should take precedence over preserving individual animals.
eg. plants and animals
Conservationist perspective
explanations of a person’s life from birth to death.
eg. physical growth
Development perspective
