What is grinding? Explain this briefly

A

process to improve finish and slightly alter surfaces tolerances by removing a small amount of the material.

An abrasive material is rubbed against a metal piece and small surface material is removed.

Give three reasons for grinding

A
  1. Materials too hard to be machined (such as lathe work).
  2. Tolerances need to be adjusted for machining.
  3. Removing of excess material.

What is loading?

A

When a grinding wheel loaded with small debris between the abrasive grains. This causes overheating.

What is glazing?

A

Grinding wheel has a shiny appearance - abrasive particles have become dull and do not cut effectively.

A
