Investigating diversity Flashcards
(6 cards)
What is the mode?
Number that appears the most
What is the median ?
The middle value
How could we collect data from random samples of a population ?
Divide the area into a grid
Use a random number generator to generate coordinates
Use a large number of samples to collect a reliable and representative sample
Then calculate a mean and the sd of that mean
Standard deviations
Large sd means the sample Varys a lot and are less reliable and if so bars overlap then the differences between the groups of data are not significant
Analysing p values
P is less than or equal to 0.05 the probability that the differences are due to chance are less than or equal to 5%
The differences are significant
Vise versa
Statistical tests
Correlation coefficient is used when examining an association between two sets of data
Chi squared test is used when the data are catageric
