- air is heated by he ground
- air warms and rises because it is less dense; that creates a low pressure area
- the warm air spreads out and cools
- the cool air sinks because it is more dense; that creates a high pressure area
- wind flows from high to low pressure, the the high pressure area flows to the low pressure area creating wind
