Mourning Rituals

A

Body is washed and wrapped in cloth. May be persons tallit(prayer shawl)
Somebody should stay with the body at all times
Relatives mourn for seven days, called Shivah
Relatives make a tear in clothes, sit on small chairs, cover mirrors and men don’t shave
Jewish people are buried very quickly after their death
Those mourning the death of parents will recite Mourner’s Kaddish for 11 months
Sitting on low chairs originated from the Tanakh- focus is on personal comfort but attention should be on the person who has died.
