Where is the RSS switch located?
RSS in #2 end of Motor cars. (The trailer car equivalent is the SSS)
What 4 things could cause a loss of overhead power?
OMET 212
- A wiring fault.
- Loss of power from a substation.
- A fault with high tension electrical equipment on a train.
- Unplanned removal of the overhead power supply.
How many times does the power sub-station reset itself?
3 times. 20 seconds between each reset. (which is why we have to observe LVIL light for 1 min after lowering and raising pantos)
What happens if you trip the Pilot Motor MCB?
Lose motors on that car.
What do you get when you share a Motor Alternator via the SSS?
- Half Air conditioning
- Full lights
- Battery charging
- AFIL + FIL lights will extinguish.
How do you know you have a traction fault?
- FIL light
- PFIL light.
- No reading on ammeter.
What are 2 types of PFIL problems?
- Shining continuously - overload relay tripped

Don’t turn off isolating cock.

- Shut off

What are the steps if you lose Brake Pipe Air?
- Close DBCIC
- Call Guard to check if divided or derailed.
- Reset the Trip by putting brakes to Emergency to empty BP air then to release and running to charge.
If BP air drops to 0, the problem is after the Brake Stand.
How do you isolate Main Res air in Car 1?
- Close through cock 1 and 2
- Trip Comp Gov and Comp Sync.
- MCOS to ALL OUT.
- Guard to open DBCIC.
- You only have Emergency Brakes.
How do you isolate Car 1 from the Brake Pipe air?
- Close BP through cocks cars 1 and 2 end.
- Close EPIC and TVIC and drain Aux Res (SPB must work)
- Driver to rear. Guard 1st car max speed 10km/h
- No pax in car 1.
- Nightsafe.
- Trip EP in Car 8 - Drive in auto.
Step for a loss of BP air in car 2?
- Close through cocks between 1+2 and 2+3.
- Close EPIC and TVIC.
- Drain Aux Res
- SPB on car 1 must work.
- Driver to rear.
- Guard to front.
- Max 10km/h
- Guard to open DBCIC.
What do you do if there’s a loss of Main Res air in car 1?
- Close through cocks 1+2
- Trip Comp Gov and Comp Sync.
- MCOS to ALL OUT.
- Guard open DBCIC.
- Restricted speed max 25km/h (no bellows)
- No pax (doors won’t work without CRM)
- Pilot Valve / Relay Valve failure.
What do you do if there’s a loss of Main Res air in car 2?
- Close through cocks 2+3
- Lower and isolate the panto
- SSS to EM2
- Trip Comp Gov and Comp Sync.
- MCOS to ALL OUT in car 1
- Guard to open DBCIC
- No bellows = 25km/h
What do you do if there’s a loss of Main Res air in car 3?
- Close through cocks 2+3 and 3+4
- Lower and isolate the panto
- SSS to EM2
- Trip Comp Gov and Comp Sync. (Car 4)
- MCOS to ALL OUT (Car 4)
- Guard to open DBCIC
- No bellows = 25km/h
