Flashcards in Kinematics and Kinetics Deck (15):
1

Types of motion occurring in human kinematics

Rotatory
Translatory
Curvilinear
General plane motion

2

Rotatory movement

□ Each point in segment moves through same angle, same time and same distance from centre of rotation (axis)

3

Translatory movement

□ Linear displacement
® Each point of segment moves through same distance at same time and plane
® Hand flat, reaching for object on table

4

Curvilinear movement

□ Combination (rotatory + translatory), rotation of object through space

5

General plane motion

□ Rotation about axis while axis is translated in space
- Picking up a cup to drink from it
- Elbow moved through space by shoulder

6

Uniaxial joint example

Elbow (flex. and exten.)

7

Biaxial joint example

MCP

8

Triaxial joint example

Hip

9

Gliding joint example

Between cuneiform and navicular

10

Kinetics:

analysis of forces

11

External forces

Wind, mechanical

12

Internal forces

§ Generated by muscles, bones, ligaments
§ Counteract effects of external focres
§ Friction and atmospheric pressure may act as both internal and external forces
(Atmospheric pressure in glenohumeral joint)

13

Kinematic chaing

• Segments jointed together fixed, all of which move dependently of each other

14

Open Kinematic chain

Washing, dressing, grooming, tennis

15

Closed Kinematic chain

raising from a chair using arm rests, levering from bath using arms, getting up from floor using only arms, gymnastics movements
